Grayson | 17 Months

I decided to resume my monthly updates on Grayson, because I have missed writing them! I spent a considerable amount of time the other evening reading over the past few months, reminiscing.

I read somewhere the other night - I think it was Lysa TerKeurst, and she said something along the lines of  "The days are long but the years are short."

Something to keep in perspective on those days that seem to drag on forever. Because we have a lot of those days - especially lately - when I am tired and slow moving and not too keen about having a toddler crawl all over me!

A few days ago, our Graybee-Baby as we often call him, turned 17 months old.

Month 16 was a rough time. We battled bronchitis, an ear infection and Grayson's first experience with throwing up. The ear infection caused him to be off balance, giving him a limp for what seemed like weeks. I never thought he would feel better again - it felt like he was sick forever. Fortunately the limp HAS cleared up, despite my doubts that it would!

There's that old song that Sara Evans re-did a number of years ago  where the chorus goes "I need to be next to you...Need to share very breath with you." Well, that song embodies Grayson to a T. In fact Mike sometimes jokingly sings it to me when he sees Grayson climb up on the couch, stand next to my shoulder, lean into my hair and then lightly rest his little foot on my belly.

The past few days have brought out some cringe-worthy reactions from this worn down mama when Grayson has to be all up in my face. Or when he doesn't listen to me. We are on a learning curve for sure, and I think I probably always will be!

Grayson loves to be tossed in the air, spun in circles and wrestled with Mike. It is his favorite thing ever. Then he tries to play that way with me, and I'm like, "Really, Grayson, save it for Daddy." There's no way I am tossing that kiddo in the air!

I love the relationship Mike and Grayson have, and I am so thankful for Mike because he is such a wonderful and doting father. Tonight Mike was getting ready for work upstairs, and I was having trouble corralling Grayson up the steps for bed. All Mike had to do was shout down the steps, "Do I hear a little baby down there?" And Grayson FREAKED! Tossed his sippy cup over one shoulder and made a mad dash for the steps. Each step he climbed, he shrieked and giggled until he met Mike at the top where he was greeted with a huge bear hug.

They are the best together.

He loves to sort. He is a big fan of taking all the clothes out of the dryer and putting them in different baskets I have out in the hall by our little laundry room. The other day I opened the dryer to find two duffle bags stuffed into it - how he managed that without me noticing is still a mystery! This morning I caught him running to my dresser, pulling out clothes and then putting them in a basket in the hallway. He also likes to toss things in the tub and the toilet.

The plus side to that is that he is more than happy to bring all of his clothes out from his bedroom to be washed ;)

Here he is sorting socks :)

He is sleeping from about 8:00 pm to 6:30 most mornings, and he wakes up talking - not crying - which is a nice change.

He is still working on those 1 year molars - and has been since January. They are taking their sweet time, and he drools constantly it seems. We decided once those one year molars are in, we will start weaning him from his pacifier.

He had his first sleepover to Grandpa and Grandma M's. I think the three of them had a blast! I heard that he slept very well both nights in his pack n play and was on good behavior for most of the time. He sure was excited to see Mike and me, so that was nice to know that he remembered us and recognized us! This makes me feel better as he might be staying with grandparents while I am in the hospital having a baby! :)

He loves to ride his blue horse, often backwards or while doing tricks (standing on the horse's back.)

He loves to play with Mike's old iPod Touch. Yep, we are one of those families who allows our child to play with things like that. I got a protective case for it, and the very first day he had it, he heaved it down the steps. And it still works just fine! He loves Abcmouse, especially the alphabet music videos that are pretty catchy and get stuck in my head. (Thanks for the heads up on that one, Aunt Betty Jean and Mom!) He knows what buttons to push to advance to the next video or repeat. He also loves to watch Veggie Tales on it.

He loves to throw everything. (This is also problematic.) And then usually goes to fetch whatever he just threw. He also loves to drag the diaper bag into the room to indicate that he wants some animal crackers STAT.

He giggles while watching TV. It is the cutest thing ever.

Today was the second attempt at the nursery at church and he screamed for most of it. Thank heavens for the patient nursery workers who didn't come and get me because they said they could tell I needed a break. He ended up calming down for one of them, and she told me how much she loved snuggling with him. It did this mama's heart some good to be able to listen to the sermon without dealing with him the entire time.

He sure loves his grandparents on both sides. And is starting to recognize them and not be as stranger danger as he has in the past.

Today is my 32nd birthday. Two years ago on this day, Mike and I got to see Grayson for the very first time via ultrasound. It was the best birthday EVER. :) Here is his first picture, his picture last year...

and this year.... :)
