Summer | Recap

What is summer when you are a stay-at-home mom with a child who is not yet school aged? And your husband works a non-teacher type of job?

Well, I will tell you. Summer it is just like every other day, week, month out of the year but with warmer temps.

As you can probably guess, we did nothing "summer-y" this summer. Yeah we walked over to the ice cream place a block over a couple of times, and we went to the park a few times, but that is about it. Swimming? No. Going on vacation? In my dreams. No weddings to attend. No finding out if our baby was going to be a boy or a girl - or dealing with terrible swelling from pregnancy (like last year.)

I know this will change when Grayson is older and has the summers off from school. For him, I hope we will fill his summers with memories like my parents did for me.

Because let me tell you, when I was a kid, we had the BEST summers. The best.

Days filled with roller skating countless laps around the garage and driveway. Playing hide and seek at night with friends. Learning how to cross-stitch and back-stitch. Picking blueberries. Visits with grandparents and family. Playing round after round of free mini golf at my uncle's golf course. Riding bikes all over the neighborhood. Camping every other weekend in our "Hilton on wheels."

I tell ya. Those were some great days. I could go on and on and on.

My goal is to make Grayson's future summers just as awesome.

Even though we didn't do anything that really embodied summer, we did have several very busy months!

VBS | For the first year ever, I got involved with my church's Vacation Bible School. We started working on that in February and at the end of July was VBS week. What a commitment! But it was fun :)

Visiting Family | Grayson and I  made a quick trip to PA to see family with my dad and mom. That was one of my favorite trips ever, I think! We also got to see our nephew and Mike's brother and his wife.

Decorating and Unpacking | Mike and I are still working on decorating our house and unpacking our boxes from our move last year. What a work in progress that has been. We still have a ways to go, but our house is finally starting to feel like home. Which is good because I spend a lot of time here!

I got my nose pierced. | <Sound of a record scratching> Yes. Very uncharacteristic of me, I know, as someone who admittedly does not take a lot of risks. Will never ever get it done again because it was crazy painful. So glad I did it though - was something I have wanted to do for at least a decade. And yes Mike was 100 percent okay with me doing it.

My brother and his family came for a visit. | An amazing visit where I got to meet my nephew!!!

I did go to a concert in Cleveland! | My friend Stevie and I went to Cleveland to see Jimmy Eat World at the House of Blues. That was so fun! A great concert :)

Paid off my school loan. | YAY! :)

We worked A LOT. | Mike worked a ton of overtime and took maybe one day of vacation. I kept the home fires burning while he worked. It was not easy. It is still not easy.

Most importantly, we watched Grayson grow! | The past few months have been filled to the brim with everything Grayson. He is SUCH a joy. Such a fun baby. SUCH a handful. Wouldn't want him any other way. Though sometimes it would be nice if he just sat in one spot for more than 30 seconds ;)

Did you have a fun summer? :)

Here's hoping that our fall will be full of good times. It looks promising anyway :)
