It's been a hot minute...or months...since my last post. Here's what has been going on:
- Our house is done! It took them just under five months to complete it. We have been in for nearly a month. WE LOVE IT. The transition for Grayson was VERY hard, but we made it through - and he more - or less - loves our new home. Someday I will get around to posting pictures. We still need a driveway and a yard - but considering we just survived the longest winter ever - hopefully they will be installed sooner than later. We lived with my incredibly gracious parents since August! They helped us out BIG TIME.
- My little newborn Jovie turns TEN MONTHS OLD next week. She is hilarious! She is the sweetest little baby. She is always smiley, always laid back, always pleasant. (Well usually.) She and I are joined at the hip. In true Smith family fashion, I call her Jove, Jovie-Mina (my mom calls her that too), Princess Peach, and Girlfriend. She is getting used to sleeping in her crib in her new bedroom. She has one tooth.
- Grayson starts kindergarten in August. I can't even wrap my mind around it. My sweet, smart boy is now proficient in the identifying letters of the alphabet, and he is gaining knowledge every single day. He watches everything. He is so observant - even when you don't think he is paying attention. Unfortunately he won't be attending our local school system - he will be going to the next school district over that has special needs classrooms. Because guess what? Our school system doesn't. Don't even get me started. *rolls eyes*
- Easton. Oh Easton. What would I do without him? I think this hourly. He is such a bright spot. He recently started preschool four days a week. He is also on an IEP for speech, occupational and physical therapies. *sigh* He makes me laugh ALL THE TIME. He says the funniest things. He became particularly close to my dad and my mom since we lived with them. He is always asking me about Grandpa. Is Grandpa at work? Where is Grandpa? I LOVE GRANDPA, MOMMY. I hear this a dozen times a day - so we try to make Grandpa and Grandma visits a priority. It's easy since they live just down the street! :) My mom helps me out during the week when I have to run kids everywhere so he sees her pretty often! :) He also loves to go to the farm and before school started had a standing date with Grandma Beth to hang out at the farm.
- Mike. Mike is BUSY. He is working so much, but it makes sense because we just made the biggest purchase of our life. He is such a great dad! He is the only one who completely understands just how hard it is to be a special needs parent - with me! He is way more patient than me, and he is generally the preferred parent. Grayson is especially his buddy, and they run errands together. Mike and I just completed a special needs parenting class - geared towards autism. It was really fascinating, and it has given us some tools.
- Me. I have been busy just getting us all settled. I have fallen back into some of my usual house-keeping routines with laundry and cleaning. Those months without my own home were hard in that I felt like I had lost my livelihood a little bit. My anxiety is completely out of control. And after reading the symptoms of caregiver burnout, I realize that I have it - expect the symptoms that have to do with substance abuse! Though I suppose my substance could be candy? Ha. It's not funny really. I would love to get a part-time job or get some hobbies or SOMETHING - but I've got nothing. I have no energy for anything really outside of my family. They say self-care is so important for special needs parents especially - but there is literally no time as in I have nothing left to give. And I know they say that you shouldn't say you don't have time, it's just that you don't make it. I invite "they" to come live my life, and they will see that's not completely accurate.
Well on that cheerful note ;) I will sign off. Hopefully I will check in more often now that we are settled :)
