Beach Day

We had been planning a beach trip with our friends Garth and Kelly and their boys for awhile now. We finally worked out a date that fit into all of our schedules. I was so excited! I love going to the lake. Mike proposed to me there, and that is also where we got married. We spent a lot of time at the lake during our dating days.

The night before I had everything packed and ready to go into the car. I could not wait!

We caravaned to the beach and found out that the water was contaminated by algae toxins. I had checked the ODNR website the night before and the beach we went to was not listed. But when we arrived we found out that the water was hazardous. For the record, it is impossible to keep a two year old who loves the water out of the water. So we let him wade and we hoped for the best.

The weather was perfect. Easton and our friend's youngest kiddo had so much fun playing together in the sand - often gobbling up handfuls of it. Easton wanted to be in the water so badly, but we didn't think that was a good idea. So the little boys stayed in the sand and the big boys got to frolic in the water.

(For the record, if the water had been that bad, they would have shut the beach down. And there were a lot of kids in the water.)

Grayson had a hard day. Whenever we took him out of the water for a break, he absolutely flipped. He scratched and even bit to get his point across. After the umpteenth time getting scratched, we had enough. It's so difficult to discipline your child when you are in an unfamiliar place - especially a kiddo like my Gray.

So we packed up, said a reluctant goodbye to our friends and we headed home. I bawled as we left because the day didn't go like I had planned.

But still. It was good to get away with our friends, even for just a day.
