Show and Tell Tuesday | Beauty Routine

I am linking up with Andrea over at Momfessionals for Show and Tell Tuesdays!

The topic of the day is "Show Us Your Beauty Routine."

I snort-laughed when I read this was the category. In fact, I contemplated not participating in this particular link up because I am not exactly known for my ability to look put together. :)

The immortal words of Taylor Swift's Blank Space "Darling, I am a nightmare dressed like a daydream" are often transposed to "Darling, I am a daydream dressed like a nightmare" whenever I sing the song when it is on the radio...on my iPhone...on repeat...because I own the entire album.

(It's okay, I am just poking some fun at myself because it's true.)

The fact of the matter is that it is a daily battle for me to fight mom-frump.

And I just don't usually succeed.

I decided to go along with the challenge because it is different than what I usually write about. No pictures of my boys this post - sorry about that.

Let's get started.

Shampoo:
Paul Mitchell Super Strong

My stylist talked me into this because she's a pretty good salesman.

I had been spending a ridiculously large amount on off the shelf drug store brand because I am just never happy with the results! I was always trying new things! A vicious and expensive cycle.

. Back in the day when we were two income, I never thought twice on splurging on shampoo. But now I have to take in all of the financial considerations, and I thought this was a good investment. I purchased these in January and they are still going strong.

After being introduced to this product through Birchbox, I purchased some Macadamia Oil brand cleansing conditioner on those days when I co-wash my hair, which is not too often because this stuff is pretty expensive. I actually got this particular bottle on sale at Ulta for half-off - only $7! Sadly I think they have stopped making this.

I just realized that I didn't take a picture of my body wash. Oh well. It varies from month to month. I am not brand loyal to any one soap.

Lips:

I am a big Chapstick/Blistex type of girl. I am not crazy about the Maybelline Baby Lips but I use it because I have it. The small tube is a lip and cheek stain by Jane Iredale called "Just Kissed in Forever Pink." I love it. And it tastes amazing. And the color isn't too outrageous. (Also a Birchbox find that might become a permanent resident in my purse.)

These are my hair products. Spray to use before I use my flat iron. Dry shampoo on those days I don't wash my hair - usually every other day. And a light hairspray by Amika from Birchbox.

Face:

I use a purifying pore scrub each morning. I have my trusty Clinque moisturizing gel. I spend about 25 bucks a year on that as that will last me one entire year. A little goes a long way. I have used it for the past six years. I also break out BB cream when I am leaving the house - sometimes - or when I am too lazy to even do that I use the Baby Skin gel. It's amazing. The blue tube is a pore vacuum that tightens up pores - also a great Birchbox find.

I am fully aware that I don't have the best skin, and I really SHOULD wear makeup more often. But I just don't love heavy feeling makeup that smothers. :(

My friend Mary Ann got me the body lotion for my birthday and I am officially addicted. Of course antiperspirant is a no brainer. I am currently loving this Essie fingernail polish that I haven't even used yet! Because I don't have a lot of time waiting around for it to dry. I bought it after Gray's appointment at Children's. It was definitely a splurge. It seems crazy to spend 8 bucks on fingernail polish. You know what else is crazy? Just looking at it in the bottle and not actually using it.

And I bought this blue CoverGirl polish last year, and it is my favorite.

Eyes:

The little square of eyeshadow and the mascara came from Birchbox. The mascara is the best I have ever used. Also my trusty Almay color match eye shadow for my green eyes.

Tools:

Last but not least. (YES I held my phone over my head to take this picture. I am not really that tall and the counter is not that short.) I use a Wet brush on my hair, and it is amazing! I have a Paul Mitchell flat iron. Mike got it for me as an anniversary gift. If you are going to straighten your hair every day, it is best to invest in a good straightener!

Also included is the obligatory hair tie. I have been attempting to grow my hair out for over a year now, and my youngest loves to grab fists full of my hair at every free opportunity so it usually goes right up into a ponytail most days.

And there you go. My "beauty" routine.

How I look most days.

Or when I go on a rare date with my husband, I put some eyeliner on.

He is so good-looking. Basically he is my trophy-husband.
