Big Boy Bed = Disaster
Grayson has been having a couple of hard weeks. I won't go into it, because it really doesn't matter. Each family has their trials. And his behavior is one of ours, I am afraid!
Considering he is 2.5, I was a little concerned that he was still sleeping in his crib. But he loved sleeping in his crib and rarely gave us problems at bed time. It was so easy on him - and let's be honest - on me too! - so I thought maybe once he starts climbing out of the crib, we would transition him into his toddler bed which can be converted from his crib.
However I was not at all prepared for him to actually do that. I knew the day was coming but I was ignorant! :)
And then it happened. Mike, Easton and I were downstairs one morning when we heard a huge crash from upstairs. Mike's first responder training mixed with concerned fatherhood kicked in and he was up the stairs in a half a second. I was on his heels with Easton in my arms. Mike threw open Grayson's door and scooped him up off the floor.
His first and only attempt to climb out of the crib was unsuccessful. That day before Mike left work, he converted the crib to a toddler bed.
And honestly, you guys. It has been torture every single night putting him to bed. I DREAD IT.
The first night he cried almost all night long. He was so disoriented. I should have been better prepared. Totally broke my heart. Neither of us got much sleep.
Every night since he has screamed himself to sleep and thrown his body up against his closed door. As I write this, he has stopped screaming but he continues to kick the door with his feet. If our house is still standing when our boys are grown up, I will be shocked. Seriously. The poor house takes so much abuse :( Every night he cries himself to sleep. I will go check on him around midnight and he will be laying wedged between his train table and his door with piles of blankets on top of him.
I always move him to his bed, and he has been sleeping through the night no problems.
I know Grayson has a hard time with transitions. He loves routines so I have been attempting to keep to the same thing every night. If I can't do that, I at least give him LOTS of warning.
But it doesn't matter. I told Mike we better get him a mattress and box springs stat because I don't want to go through this again when we make that transition. Let's just get it out of the way now.
But isn't his big boy bed cute?? Too bad he isn't a fan of it :(
