My Two Year Old Attends School :)
I know I have mentioned a time or two that Grayson has been going to "school." It's actually a play group held two mornings a week at a nearby school. The kids in Grayson's play group are either "typical" (meaning no developmental delays), have developmental delays or just need speech, physical and occupational therapy. They all play together and learn from each other. It is a very neat environment. Mike and I are so thankful that Grayson can participate in this program. Since starting in November, we have seen a big difference in him - in his language and communication and his socialization skills with other kids.
By the way. If you are wondering. It is VERY WEIRD for me to be worried about snow days and school cancellations and if Grayson's backpack is ready for school because he is TWO. I have a hard time scheduling around his SCHOOL schedule. It should be another couple years before I even have to think of things like that! ;)
Usually I drop him off for the two hours and then come home. Or Mike and I do grocery shopping or run errands with Easton. It's amazing how my son who has some severe separation anxiety when left in the nursery at church or even at his grandparents, does not seem to care even the slightest bit when I leave him at school.
He is the youngest kid in his class, and he will only attend until his third birthday. It's just the way the play group is set up, but I already know I will miss this play group once he gets too old for it.
The teacher has a special relationship with Grayson. She does a home visit once a month, and Grayson is so excited when she is here. Last time she visited, he was eating breakfast. When he heard her voice, he insisted on getting down from his chair and running to her. She is a great person, and she advocates for Grayson. We are thankful for her and her team of assistants in the play group.
Today I attended class with Gray because I haven't for a few months, and parents are always welcome to join.
I loved watching him play and interact. He didn't exactly pay the best attention but given his age, that's no big surprise. They read a story, sing, play, go to the gym, have a local dance teacher meet with them, have a snack, do a craft...they pack a lot in to those two hours.
Now for some pictures! Most of them are blurry because he is constant motion. I also didn't want to post pictures of any other kids or even the teachers in order to keep their privacy. But these pics will give you a good idea of what he does there.

Of course the best part of the morning is when Daddy picks him up from school!
Best buddies.
