A Day In The Life

I thought it would be fun to re-cap my day today.

3:30 am | Baby is screaming in his crib because he peed everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Lift him out of the crib, assess the situation and tiredly decide that I am in no mood to change his crib sheet. Quickly change him, calm him down and place him in the bassinet I keep next to the bed for moments like this.

5:30 am | Baby fusses. His usual time to eat. Half awake I give him a bottle. He falls back asleep. However I am now wide awake so I scroll through Facebook and try to beat level 107 of Two Dots which is the hardest level EVER.

8:30 am | Baby is awake. He is screaming. And he sounds hoarse. Mike checks him out and says he thinks he has a sore throat. He has been coughing quite a bit lately so I think that is probably right on. Mike runs for another bottle, and I feed it to him. It is exactly what calms Easton and he doesn't sound so hoarse after he is done eating. Poor kid. Sore throats are the worse. He completely knocks a 6 oz bottle out in about 15 minutes. Unheard of.

9:00 am | Mike wakes up Grayson. Grayson has also been sick with a bad cough and he is very slow to wake. We decide to call him off of school again today, and I worry that maybe he has gotten worse. Once he is fully awake, he starts running around again and my fears are alleviated. Mike breaks out the bulb syringe and we suck a ton of junk out of poor Gray's nose as he cries.    Poor kiddo :( But afterwards he feels even better. We talk a ridiculously long time about how much snot that kid has! Holy smokes. (Have I grossed you out yet?)

9:30 to 11:00 am | We spend time together as a family. Eating breakfast. Paying bills. Changing diapers and outfits. Getting snacks for our two year old who is hungry constantly. Mike washes bottles and wrestles with Gray. The mail comes and we are excited as it brings things Mike has ordered from American Eagle, some DVDs from Amazon for Gray for Christmas (a little late) and my very first Birchbox subscription. I am giddy! :) I take a quick shower deciding to forego washing my hair because no one is going to see me today anyway. TMI I guess. I hobble around because every muscle in my entire body hurts. I am getting old and I don't like cold weather.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm| Lunch time. Spaghetti for Gray. (His favorite). Veggie Soup - Progresso NOT Campbells no thanks to an unfortunate discovery of a piece of wood in a can of Campbell's soup - for Mike and then some gross Ramen because we must be in college again :) I have a plate of nachos that are not appetizing. Mike and I discuss weight loss challenges and Mike takes a perfectly timed phone call from a health coach about his fitness goals.

1:00 pm | The saddest part of the day. Mike gets ready to leave for work. Gray is getting tired at this point and has started to build a fort on his trampoline. We make sure that Daddy has all his gear and his phone. Mike kisses us all goodbye and heads out as we all trade Love-Yous.

1:30 pm | Gray goes down for a nap. I ask him if he wants the red button or the blue button on his sound machine (red is classic music, blue is the seashore) and he chooses red.

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm | I put on some TV and try desperately to get Easton to take a nap. He is not having it. He cries. I give him some gas medicine because I hear some rumbling. Put him in his swing. He cries. Another bottle for him then. I feed him and he and I both fall asleep for about 20 minutes.

3:30 pm | Grayson is awake and talking in his crib. Easton and I go and get him. He runs into the bedroom and looks for Daddy. I gently remind him that Daddy is at work. He comes downstairs with me and I put in the Letter Factory DVD. We work on our our letters. Well I work on them, and he laughs hysterically at the letters that fly around in the menu screen. The baby is on my lap and I feel something warm. He pees again. All over. Outfit changes for us both.

4:00 to 4:30 pm | We play. Gray's new game is to step very carefully over his brother over and over again. I watch like a hawk and Easton laughs hysterically. I change more diapers. Make a hair appointment for next week. Decide to start supper which is kind of a big deal because I don't really make supper often. What's the point when its just me eating it and maybe Mike if he doesn't get in too late? I decide to make tacos. Put on another alphabet DVD for Gray. He couldn't care less and comes into the kitchen and pulls pancake mix out of the cupboard. I grab it before he drops it everywhere. Whew that was close!

5:00 pm | Decide that I should write this post. Start to write it with the baby sitting next to me in his bumbo and I accidentally burn the meat I had frying. Whoops. Grayson plays in the kitchen and tries to get under my feet as I try to drain the meat. I yell "GET BACK! HOT!" And he runs away. I find him in the family room sitting in front of the TV with DVDs strewn around him. He is holding his feet and watching the Letter M video intently. I walk back in the kitchen and somehow step in pasta that had been on the floor from lunch.

5:30 pm | Baby is MAD. Wants to eat. I give him some baby food and make a mental to note to get baby cereal next time we are at the store. He loves apples so much and he squeals happily. So cute. I call for Gray and ask him if he is hungry and he comes in to the kitchen. He leans into my leg. Aww! Oh wait no. He is pushing me out of the way so he can get into the cupboard. Then he leaves. I turn around and trip over his toys. Dang it! I decide to make pancakes for him. Because I will offer him taco meat but I know he won't eat it. Should I make brownies tonight? Should I even be eating brownies? Oh probably not. I'll make them anyway because it is freezing cold outside and warm brownies might be nice.

6:00 to 6:30 pm | We eat. This is amazing that I am even eating dinner at all. Grayson throws his taco meat on the floor like predicted. No amount of cajoling will convince him to eat it. So he eats a ton of pancakes and applesauce. Easton looks on and smiles at me every time I make eye contact. Ah. So cute.

6:30 to 8:00 | We play. We sing. We read a ton of books. (Full disclosure: I have the TV on as background noise - more alphabet music videos.) Gray pays attention to me reading for about two minutes and then takes the books from me and flips through the pages at his own rate. He gets mad because I go to feed Easton and cannot get his water cup filled up for him immediately. A tantrum begins, complete with kicking feet and flailing on the floor. I decide its time for bed. I take both boys upstairs and change the sheets in Easton's crib. Both Grayson and Easton are crying, and I keep saying to myself, "No one is ever happy and someone is always crying!!!" I get Grayson ready for bed - fill up the vaporizer, give him some honey, put baby rub on his chest and back. Kisses and then to bed.

8:00 to 10:00 | Try to get Easton to fall asleep. Failing miserably. More diaper changes. I switch the laundry. I get out a fresh pair of jammies for him and we settle in to watch The Tonight Show on my computer where I am sorely disappointed by Jimmy's interview of Bradley Cooper and think they should have talked seriously about the story behind American Sniper. I skip ahead so I don't have to watch anymore of their idiocy. One and a half bottles later, Easton is asleep in his bassinet. I will transfer him to his crib later.

Current time 10:24. I never got around to baking brownies. The kitchen needs cleaned. The trash needs taken out. I haven't heard from Mike, and I have no clue how late he will be tonight. I will wait up for him most likely unless it is after midnight and then I will go to bed.

And that is my day usually. Today my kids were not that fussy and didn't throw too many tantrums. That is not always the norm. And when the weather is better sometimes, we run errands in the morning or we spend the afternoon and evening at my parents.

What does your every day look like? :)
