The Chain Keeps Us Together
Music is kind of my dad's and my thing. When I was a kid, we would spend HOURS sitting in front of his record player as he made mixed tapes for me. Coolest dad ever? No doubt.
When I heard that one of my dad's favorite bands, Fleetwood Mac, was going to be touring with all 5 of the original members for the first time in decades, I was pretty excited! You see, about four years ago (at least) my boss at the time gave me his tickets to see Fleetwood Mac, and I asked my dad to go with me. It was a great concert, but it was only John McVie, Lindsay Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood - there were missing that awesome fifth element of Christine McVie.
This was months and months ago, but when I heard Christine was going to be touring with them again, I was pretty excited. I brought it up to my dad, and he started to research tour dates and ticket information. Lucky for us, the band would be about an hour away so he booked the tickets.
Then the day of the concert finally arrived. Mike was going to keep Gray, but the baby was going to go to my mom's for the evening. I was working at the church (it was a Sunday morning) and I got a surprising text from my dad saying that he felt led to give up his ticket so Mike could go with me. He and my mom offered us their car, to pay for our meal and to watch the kids ALL NIGHT.
Mike and I were floored. Absolutely floored. And having not gotten to go on a bonafide date night in months, we were so touched. An evening out kid free?! We just could not say no to that!
And so we went. We had an amazing time. We laughed as we walked several blocks from the concert venue to get dinner and then we waited almost an hour for a seat. We headed back to the venue, where we had nosebleed seats, and my heart was racing because I am no fan of heights. And then obnoxious ladies sat in front of us and cussed out everyone who happened to stand up and obstruct their view!
But the music was great. Our seats gave us a great perspective on the band - like there was a relief drummer for Mick Fleetwood but he was hidden away behind a bunch of sound equipment. They played all of their old songs - Landslide, The Chain, Tusk, etc. and Mike and I really enjoyed the show. We snuck out early to avoid the crowds and because my chest pains did not subside like I thought they would :( We then had a near run-in with a very scary guy on the way back to our car where Mike's LEO-ness almost took over which was a neat but kind of scary thing to witness! :)
We had an amazing time. I didn't take many pictures because I was videoing with my iPhone and sending countless videos to my dad so he could also enjoy the concert by proxy.
We got home kind of late and then SLEPT IN. I have not slept in and felt rested in well over a year. IT WAS AMAZING. It was a great start to our week - which turns out I really needed that because of a sick kiddo.
Thank you again, Dad and Mom, for gifting us with such a great opportunity!! <3
