Grayson's First Dance Class

Today was Grayson's first Dance with Me class.

He and I trekked through our backyard and across the street to the dance studio. I love that it is so close to us.

When we walked in, there were several sweet little girls there waiting for class. They were so precious. One even wore a pink tutu and ballet slippers. The boy-mom in me really wants a little girl someday. *sigh* But that is neither here nor there. I had a sinking feeling as I watched these little girls sit quietly next to their moms.

Why did I have a sinking feeling?? Well...Grayson did not quite fit in with his UnderArmour shirt and gray shorts. Or with his screeching and mad dashes around the dance floor. And licking his reflection on the huge wall-sized mirror at the end of the studio.

Ay yi yi. I tried not to be embarrassed by his actions. Because he is a boy. A very rowdy, silly, goofy little boy. Instead I focused on just having fun with him, and we really had a good time.

For most of the class, I held Grayson on my hip because I knew he would be very disruptive if I didn't. He let out peals of laughter every time we hopped around the dance floor. He loved watching his classmates twirl around and dance too.

By the end of the first song, I was sweating like crazy. No need to exercise today as I got my workout in this morning! Grayson may have been a small fry that first year of his life, but he is filled out now. The kid is 30 lbs. At least.

You know how they say that girls mature faster than boys? So very true. Granted, Grayson was the youngest kid in that class. However it was blatantly clear to me as the little girls in the class sweetly thanked the instructor - Miss Jill - for the stickers she gave them, while Grayson ran by - not even slightly interested in anything sticker related. (Miss Jill is awesome! She has the patience of a saint!)

For example:

Those were the best pictures I could capture. He is just a blur. All the time with the running!

It was so fun to take some time out of our old routine to spend some one-on-one with my oldest and act silly! We really did have a lot fun. I am hoping that he can start to pay attention to directions a little bit better, pick up on some more language skills and make some friends at this class.

I am not sure what was the best part - that he was having the time of his life OR the fact that he is passed out on the couch right now taking a nice long nap! :)
