Grayson | 21 Months
Grayson will be turning 21 months in just a couple of days! Three more months, and he will be the ripe old age of two years old!
And he will most likely be in the thick of the terrible twos, which if they are anything like what we have been going through since he turned 18 months old, then man...we are in for it!
However, I like this age. He is SO MUCH FUN. I cannot emphasize that enough. I love it, but I would be lying if I said that sometimes his idea of "fun" doesn't try my patience every now and again.
Some fun facts about Graybeesaurus Rex:
- The pacifier is gone. Considering he was such a paci-addict (hello, three pacis at one time!), I am surprised by what a smooth transition that was. Actually it was no transition at all. I used to it for emergencies only when we were in PA visiting my family, but that was two weeks ago and he hasn't asked for it since. Even more surprising is that he leaves Easton's pacifiers alone (for the most part).
- He is terribly afraid of characters that are yelling on TV - particularly Veggie Tales (and Ross Geller on Friends). He cannot make it through The Tale of Little Joe or Sheerluck Holmes without bursting into tears, every single time.
- He is still a huge fan of blowing bubbles. However, he is super picky about them. He only wants bubbles blown out of the container with the turtle on it. If you blow bubbles from any other container, he will just bring the turtle bottle over to you - countless times. He is oddly attached to that turtle bottle.
- He is working on eating with his own utensils. It has been a messy process, and he is often sidetracked by gnawing on the spoon. Baby steps.
- He has recently learned to hold our hands. During our walk at the reservoir the other night, he insisted on holding both Mike's and my hands.
- He likes to shriek for no apparent reason and bang his hands on the walls. I thought we had outgrown that but apparently not.
- He likes to take your hands and then clap them together. And then try to bite your fingers. We're working on it.
- He plays with his soccer ball the most of any of his toys. He loves to kick the ball and throw it.
- Speaking of throwing. He throws EVERYTHING. We're working on it.
- Bath time with Daddy supervising is still his favorite, but he hates hates hates getting his hair washed. It's the worse.
- He has a good memory. At my mom and dad's, he found a pitcher that my mom has used when we have played with water with him outside. He grabbed her hand and led her to the front door today, with the pitcher clutched in his other hand. She obliged and he played with pitchers of water for what seemed like forever.
- He greets his brother every morning, first thing (after a diaper and outfit change of course).
- He wants to run run run. All the time.
- He is still mostly non-verbal, but he is loud and babbles quite a bit. He is definitely getting better with communicating to us though. Today he had his first home visit with the early intervention specialist, and starting in October hopefully, he will be in a speech therapy play group twice a week!
- He goes to bed between 8 and 8:30 and usually sleeps a solid 12 hours. He goes to bed with zero fuss most nights. He knows when Daddy turns his projector and sound machine on that it is time to go to sleep. He takes one nap during the day - anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
- When he gets up in the morning, he throws all of his stuffed animals out of the crib. Then before he goes to bed at night, he picks up each animal and puts it back in the crib. It has become our little routine.
- He loves to "read" books. He flips through pages like a pro.
- On September 5th, he starts a mommy and me dance class. It's for little boys and girls 18 months and older. The teacher is a sweet lady I know from church, and her studio is within walking distance from our house. I am anxious about how he will behave, but the class is very loosely structured so hopefully he will be okay. I have visions of him wanting to run the ENTIRE time but so be it, I guess. It will be good for him to be around other little kids his age.
- He loves to root around in blankets and pillows. Mike calls him "Mole-Man" and attributes his tunneling abilities to having come from the coal mining areas of Western PA where both sides of my family came from ;)
- He has Dave Barnes hair. Have you ever heard of Dave Barnes? You have probably heard of his song "God Gave Me You" which Blake Shelton just recently covered. I like some of his music, but I LOVE his Instagram account. Mike and I laugh at all of his hilarious pictures. He is too funny. If you have an Instagram account, go. Follow him. You won't regret it. Anyway, Dave Barnes has great hair. Grayson's hair is very similar - he rocks the windswept look all the time. We always say that Grayson has Dave Barnes hair. Check it out:
Mike and I are so blown away by our boys. It is not unusual for us to stop what we are doing and marvel over the sheer adorableness of our babies (like all other parents). We are so blessed by our two little munchkins - and so thankful that we have been entrusted as their parents!

Can you see the similarity? ;)
