Happy Birthday, Grayson!

This day - around this time actually - last year, I was being rushed to the emergency room by my very concerned parents. I had called them, a little A LOT on the frantic side, because my blood pressure had spiked. Mike was at work, and I could not get ahold of him so I had to pass the word on to the dispatch center who took care of contacting him for me.

Mike practically beat us to the hospital. The nurse wheeled me into the maternity ward where they strapped me to a monitor to track the baby's movements and heart rate. The nurse called my doctor and was told enough was enough. We weren't going to mess around with this blood pressure thing anymore. Time for an induction.

Those words made my blood run cold. Induction?! No way. I was NOT ready for that. I wanted to break out of that hospital bed, but I was so so so tired and so ready for the pregnancy to be over.

It's so funny how tonight was such a polar opposite to that stressful and very scary evening one year ago.

(If you are confused about the timeline here, I actually wrote this a few days ago ;) Just a clarification!)

Tonight I played with Grayson, gave him a bath and let him splash around a little longer than usual. I gave him his last bottle, read a ton of books to him. I took him to see Daddy who was getting ready for work where they shared a quick snuggle and kiss. I prayed over him and put him to bed.

This is life as I know it now. This is what my normal evening is like. That little boy sleeping in his crib is no longer a stranger to me - or rather someone I knew very well but didn't really know at all. We have spent the last 12 months figuring each other out.

Do I have this mothering thing down yet? NO WAY. It has been a hard 12 months, filled with a lot of tears, a lot of heartache, a lot of spit-up, a lot of diaper changes, a lot of joy, a lot of baby giggles and cuddles. What an amazing year it has been.

I am not telling you anything that any mother doesn't already know - hasn't already experienced. I am just so thankful for the opportunity to raise my son. What an amazing little guy he is!

We have had some big milestones this month:

- Grayson is not walking consistently but he is taking steps every day. He loves to walk around just one handed with his walker toy like it's no big deal. He stands for a long time and he is getting his balance. He is so close to standing up on his own!

- Thanks to Grandma Carol, Grayson now knows the proper way to get down off the couch. (Instead of tumbling head first which was his preferred method.) And the biggie - she taught him to go down the steps! It is his new favorite thing to do. He laughs and slides down on his belly - but not head first which would be his preferred method, of course.

- He is in love with the book Goodnight Moon. This book was given to him by Grandma Beth, and it is his new favorite. Thanks, Grandma Beth! He likes me to read it over 10 times and always points out the "young mouse."

- He has 4 teeth on the bottom and 4 on top.

- He weighs 21 lbs and is 29 inches long!

- He loves spaghetti and pancakes. Cheerios are a favorite. And McDonald's french fries too.

- He initiates cuddling now which is new. He will put his head on your shoulder if he is sitting next to you.

- His obsession with Daddy continues to grow and he always wants up when Mike is around. He is constantly clinging to Mike's leg.

- He had his first birthday party. It was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom themed. We had his grandparents, great-grandma Barb and our closest friends and their two kiddos. It was a nice evening filled with cupcake smashing and presents. Though Grayson was more inclined to play with his old toys and peek-a-boo in the curtains.

- His soccer ball and his train are his two favorite toys. He loves to push things around or chase after things.

- He isn't talking much which is a concern to me. He babbles of course and says Dada and Mama and GiGi which we still haven't figure out what that means.

Happy Birthday, sweet Grayson Michael! You are such a joy. You are going to be a wonderful big brother! Your daddy and I are absolutely crazy about you! WE LOVE YOU <3

Wait a second. Big brother??

Yes. It's true. We are expecting Baby #2!!!

And Grayson is THRILLED.

Can ya tell? :)
