Grayson | 9 Months

On Sunday, August 25th, Grayson will be nine months old.

If I am doing my math correctly (which I am probably not), he is about 39 weeks old. We have officially known him longer post-partum that we did when we were pregnant! Wow. What a crazy 80-some weeks it has been.

And friends - let me tell you - if this past week of Grayson shenanigans has been any indication, things are going to get a whole lot crazier.

Did you know he climbs steps now? Oh he does. And he knows the perfect opportunity to slip away upstairs and wreak havoc in the bathroom by throwing things in the tub. Isn't that what a 2 year old does? Not a 9 month old baby?!

Did you know he slyly pulls out registers from the floor? Oh he does. I don't *think* anyway that he has thrown any of his toys down them YET. Give him time. I'm sure it will happen eventually.

Did you know that he gets these fits of energy right before he goes to bed? Where he gets it into everything? Where he laughs manically and climbs over everyone and anyone (and the dog), pulls hair and gives huge wet kisses (yes, Daisy has been the recipient a time or two)? Oh he does. Hopefully he outgrows that by the time he is school-aged, or we might have a problem.

Somewhere about five miles away, my in-laws are reading this and laughing, smiling knowingly because my son's craziness so closely mirrors my husband's activity level as a child - who are we kidding - his activity level now as nearly 32 year old man.

Daddy and Gray's idea of a good time: Pants on the head and playing in ice water.
Of course, We LOVE our little guy! I would not want to trade his spontaneity, his sweetness, his big sloppy wet kisses, his giggles for anything. He is the best. He brings so much laughter to Mike and me. He is such a joy.

Tonight he and I climbed the stairs a few times. Each step, he would giggle, turn to look at me and just beam. Be still my heart. It is an image that is forever burned into my memory. It even makes me a little teary thinking about it!

Some of Grayson's other favorite things:

- Mirrors. Or anything he can see his reflection in. Like the front of the dishwasher. That is covered in his slobbery kisses :)

- Banging on the washer why I sit in front of the dryer folding laundry.

- Chewing on all remotes.

- Clicking his tongue and having long clicking conversations with Grandma M.

- Washing his hands with Daddy after diaper changes.

- All cell phones or I-Pads. If he was awake right now, he would be trying to get to the computer.

- Chasing Daisy. That poor dog.

- My sparkly flip-flops. Toes in general. Anyone wearing Crocs.

- Getting into the dog's food and water bowl.

- Doing "Pendulum Baby" with Grandpa S.

- Being tossed into the air by Daddy. (Which gives me a heart attack every single time.)

- Watching the dogs play.

- Going for walks.

Yes, it's been a big month. I am almost a little concerned about what next month will hold.

In other news...

I feel a certain amount of mommy-shame when I say that Grayson has never been sleep-trained. He slept all through the night starting at around 6 weeks, and until he was 6 months old, slept blissfully in basinet next to the our bed.

We decided then that he needs to get used to his crib and so we would put him in there asleep every night - for two months, we never heard much of a peep out of him.

But now he is going through a separation anxiety phase, and I decided it was time to do use the Cry-It-Out Method. I started last week, thinking I need to get this nipped in the bud before Mike goes to thirds. We have been doing it for a week now, and now he cries for about 5 to 10 minutes before falling asleep. Rough. I know it could be worse, but still. Tonight I put him to bed, he woke up - turned over and fell back asleep. No screaming.

Also...

Grayson FINALLY has two top teeth. They made their appearance yesterday, and all of us - even Daisy - gave a big sigh of relief for a little break - until the next set starts to come in.

This past month, he has also had his first cold. For this first time mommy, I was in a panic. But we made it through it, and I know what to do for next time.

And finally...

Grayson met his cousin Emery. And they had a ball! They are too cute! Grayson loved being cuddled by Uncle Robbie and Aunt Tracy. Precious memories made.

Don't mess with us.
