Disaster Area Series: Front Hall | Before and After

I started my Disaster Area series because I am so tired of my house being a disaster area.

It has truly been a point of frustration for me lately.

I don't have to have a spic-n-span house. That is not important to me - but at least I want it to be picked up and welcoming. I feel like it is a part of my responsibility of being home with Grayson. Of course, he comes first and always will. I have said before that I would much rather spend time playing with him then unloading the dishwasher. However...things have been getting out of hand recently, and I think a change to my schedule and priorities are in order.

I think a slowdown in our schedule once VBS is over and a change in Mike's shift - he's going to thirds in a few weeks - will shakeup our routine a little bit more.

Also, instead of always napping with Grayson when he sleeps, I have been attempting to take that time to work on one little project around the house. Sometimes I am successful, most often, I am not.

So I decided my first area of concentration would be on our front hall.

Specifically the buffet that sits in our entryway. It is such a catch-all for all types of things: baby socks, fingernail polish, pocket knives (I found my Kershaw Chive knife in there!), craft supplies, my camera, various cords, airsoft pistol pellets and a target, and iPhone cases and adapters...I could go on. And on. And on.

BEFORE-ISH

See those metal bins on the bottom of the buffet? Filled with potentially dangerous things for my now-crawling baby to get into. Yikes! They are now empty and ready to be used as toy storage.

The picture above is kind of before...I had already cleaned out the inside shelves before it dawned on me I should have taken a picture.

The mess on top drove me crazy for days. I am someone who does not like a lot of clutter in my home, but somehow that because one very cluttered surface.

We love our gumball machine on the stand, but now that Gray is on the move we decided it is not completely practical.

The inside shelves I decided to use for storage of my camera - that I need to use more often - and picture albums. We also have a few games in there like Forbidden Island. (Awesome game, by the way.)

The four drawers I decided to use for letters and postcards, the remote for our Wii, batteries, tape and scissors. For now anyway they are out of Grayson's reach!

Ready for the big reveal?? :)

TA-DA!

MUCH BETTER. :)
Coming soon...Bookcases...in the upstairs hall at the top of the step and in the kitchen!
