House Tour

In November, we moved into our new house. Just two short weeks later, Grayson joined our lives.  As a result, we are still not completely unpacked, and at this point I don't know if we will ever be.

But after the process it took us to purchase this house, I have told Mike resolutely that we are "NEVER MOVING AGAIN." Or if we do, it will be with the help of a realtor and none of this for sale by owner thing ever again. Ever. AGAIN.

Oh and don't even get me started on the VA loan process. I can feel my blood pressure starting to rise so let's move on with the house tour...I need to change subjects!

I will only be showing pictures of the first floor because I didn't have the time or energy to really take pictures of the upstairs :) Maybe someday.

Disclaimer: These pics were taken with my iPhone. Please excuse the grainy quality!

This is our house.

Only we have a lawn now. And steps leading up to the porch. And a walk too.

We love this house. It is a new construction in a well-established old neighborhood on the main drag of our little town.

As we watched this house being built over the past year, we never dreamed that our circumstances would change and we would someday be it's owners. When it looked like that things were going to change for us, that we would be moving closer to home, we prayed many prayers that this house would be ours.

Our prayers were definitely answered :)

Here's what our family room normally looks like.

A sweeper in disarray. Baby toys scattered about. Not to be confused with dog toys (which are also scattered).
Pillows all over the place.

Ahhh...much better. :) I recently changed out the pillows...my MIL had made me some really pretty red, black and white pillows that I will bring back in the fall when I need to cozy the room up a little bit. I was trying to go for a light, springy look. I'm not sure that I accomplished it.

The blue pillows are from our guest room, the pictures on the wall were taken by Mike, and the rug is hand-me-down from my parents that I am not completely sold on. We have a few more pictures we are planning to hang up at some point.

The sectional fit our old family room perfectly. But here it looks kind of overwhelming.

We have two green chairs that were also hand-me-downs from my parents. And the crate end tables? Also hand-me-downs.

Maybe someday we will be adults and have matching furniture.

And yes, those are bed sheets hung as curtains. I know you were wondering ;) Our family room is so tiny and very dark even with the three windows. I thought maybe ceiling to floor length curtains might brighten up the room a little bit.

This is the main hallway downstairs. That's the entryway - and the front door :)

I know. A gumball machine is random. But Mike and I saw one at Hobby Lobby, and we thought it would be neat to have one by our front door. We're weird, I know. I made the SMITH sign with my Cricut. I really wanted this room to be very colorful and welcoming.

The rug was used in our kitchen up until a week ago. Pretty much everything you see is a hand-me-down, except the curio cabinet, which I hate - was an impulse buy when we first got married. The hall tree was from my grandpa's house.

The kitchen is my favorite room in the house. We spend A LOT of time in here.

We love all the cabinet space. I am NOT a huge fan of the countertop - my inlaws actually have the same one, but it looks great at their house because of their light kitchen cabinets. I think the darkness of it doesn't go that well with the dark cabinets in our kitchen. Oh well.

We are stuck with it, so I better get used to it!

There is an eating area, but I haven't really decorated it yet. It's pretty boring. A double window, a table, chairs and lamp. Not real exciting.

This is at the end of the front hall. This is what I call our "command" center - but it is a disorganized mess. Please disregard the many dog food bowls. We have three dogs living here at the moment :)

This is the half bath downstairs. And yes that is a P. Graham Dunn on the wall - a gift from Mike's brother and his wife. I love it! And yes, the stand is ALSO a hand-me-down from my parents. :)

I have never surfed a day in my life. Yet I still love that sign.

So there you have it. A little tour of our first floor sans eating area. I hope you enjoyed it :) This house is still very much a work in progress!
