Looking ahead...
Last evening, Mike and I rang in 2013 with our good friends who we always spend our New Years Eves with. Since Mike is on paternity leave, he spent the evening with us instead of working through it. The holiday was a little different this year - last year there was just one kiddo in the mix, and this year there were three altogether!
Mike asked me today what my goals are for the new year, and I said, "All I want to do is run a 5K." This is not the first time he has heard me say this...I think I have made this a resolution every year for the past five (at least).
Clearly my track record isn't great. Last year I had a valid excuse...pregnancy. The years before? Nothing.
Maybe this year will be different. Maybe I will stick to my guns and meet this goal. Maybe this year I will be a good example for my son, even though he won't be cognizant of it since he is so little.
After encouraging me to expand my goals a little bit, Mike and I wrote a list of goals for him, for me and for the family. Here is what I have:
Financial Goal - Pay off my student loans. I am SO close! We made lots of headway on this last year but that was with two incomes. This coming year and one income might make it a little more difficult.
Educational Goal - Read to Grayson at least once a day. Establish a quiet time on a weekly basis (at first).
Physical Goal - Run a 5K - specifically the Color Run in July. Also lose weight. I am nearly down to my pre-pregnancy weight, just a few more pounds to go - but still I was overweight before I got pregnant. I am not going to put a number on it - just lose something and I'll be thrilled! I get cleared next week for exercise (hopefully!)
