2012 | A Year in Review
This year has been all about change for our little family unit.
I toyed with the idea of writing out each month in detail, and then I just decided to do it. My apologies if this reads like one of those eight page front-and-back Christmas letters!
I will do my best to keep it short ;)
We found out Mike's post assignment...though he was in the top of his class and got to chose where he wanted to go, no posts were taking new people within an hour and a half from our house. So he picked a post that is about 20 minutes from our hometown. We met with our realtor about putting our house on the market and visited the post - meeting Mike's new coworkers. We also attended a glass blowing class as part of my mom's birthday gift! We received the invitations for Mike's graduation - that was a pretty big deal :)
Mike graduated from his law enforcement training that lasted 24 weeks! What a relief that was since we had basically put our lives on hold during that time. I also found out I was getting moved to another department at work, and I was so excited about that! I threw Mike a graduation party - it was a lot of fun!
We put our house on the market. I went to a close friend's 30th birthday party where we discussed babies. Lo and behold I was not feeling great that day or the next few days to follow, so I took a pregnancy test....and it was POSITIVE. Whoa!
We had plenty of showings at our house, giving us false hope. I travelled with Mike's mom and sister-in-law to PA for a bridal shower for our new sister-in-law! I was also dealing with all day sickness and a new affinity for bacon - extra crispy. Oh pregnancy cravings!
I turned 30! And we got to see our little baby for the first time - and hear his heartbeat!
This month held two trips to PA - one to attend a family reunion, visit with my grandparents and spend some time with both sides of my family. It was fun! The second trip was to attend Mike's brother's wedding! It was beautiful! It was also the last time Mike and I spent an entire day with each other until October. My brother and his wife also had their little baby boy this month!
We found out that Baby S was a BOY! My parents had a massive garage sale because they sold their house
A month of waiting. My parents moved into a condo and started moving forward in building a new house. We had more showings, and nothing coming from them. It was so disheartening! Our godson turned 2 so we went to his birthday party - such a fun time!
We got an offer on our house! YES! Then we put the wheels in motion to purchase a house closer to our hometown. My friends at work threw me an awesome baby shower!
Another baby shower! This one was put on by one of my oldest friends and her mom. My aunt Betty Jean, uncle Tom and cousin Jennifer surprised my mom and me and showed up at the shower! The greatest.surprise.ever! We got to spend two fun-filled days with them. It was amazing. I still tear up when I think about it! Also my sister-in-law Natalie flew in for the shower, and that was so fun to spend some time with her too! During this time, we were packing up our house. AND I had to give my notice at work...after a lot of discussion, we decided it would be best for our family if I stayed home with Grayson.
It almost didn't happen, but we purchased a new house! We lived with my parents for three weeks (Thanks, Dad and Mom!) as we worked out snafu after snafu with the mortgage people. We moved into our house just a few weeks before November 25th when we welcomed Grayson into the world!
Mike took six weeks of paternity leave, and together we worked to figure out this whole parenthood thing. We made a lot of memories this month - and it has been wonderful. Grayson's first Christmas with both sides of the family will be something we will always remember!
