The night before I found out, I sat at the kitchen table, picking at my dinner, listening to Mike tell me that he was positive I was not pregnant.
"But what if I am?" I asked.
"You aren't," he replied.
And on and on the conversation went in circles.
"Fine," Mike sighed in resignation. "Take the test if you want to."
To Mike's credit, this was not the first time we had this conversation. Over the past nearly six years of our marriage, I had thought a handful of times that I was pregnant. Mike always said I wasn't, and he was always right.
The next morning, hours after Mike left for work at 4 am, I took the test. I tried to convince myself I wasn't pregnant as I got ready for work, not even bothering to look at the test. Finally I gathered up enough courage to take a peek, and what I saw changed my life forever.
Mike wasn't right this time.
There it was staring me right in the face - PREGNANT.
Mike's reaction was the best. I called him on his cell, and he was out on patrol with his coach. I said, "I'm pregnant!" And he said, "How do you know?!" :)
After we got over the initial shock, we are thrilled. It has been a whirlwind of weeks, praying that everything that would be okay, waiting for my doctor's appointment that seemed to be eons away, telling our close friends and family, reading up on pregnancy because we know NOTHING, panicking about finances and how this news has changed everything for us.
Finally on my 30th birthday, Mike and I got to see our little one on the ultrasound monitor. The doctor proclaimed that everything looks great, and that our baby is an active one!
My life changed forever that day. Excited meet Baby S!
