Oh Christmas tree!
I want to decorate for Christmas. Pronto. Only I feel like that is not very fair to Thanksgiving. But I don't really like Thanksgiving and have gone some years without evening having a meal on Thanksgiving day. So who cares what Thanksgiving thinks, right?
Decision made. *hauls up the Christmas tree from the basement*
Ha, not really. But I DO want to decorate for Christmas, and I have been getting all these great ideas from Pinterest. Pinterest is like a drug. Or what I think a drug would be like. Just like Facebook on my iPhone. Just like Hot Mama's cheesy bread. Addicting!
But do you know what the best part is? My crafty husband - who did make feather trees last year out of pipe cleaners and they turned out fabulously - is also hooked on Pinterest. Sometimes when he doesn't think I am watching, he'll sign on to my boards and take a look. Today while wandering aimlessly around JoAnn Fabrics (which was a madhouse, by the way) he picked up a set of star cookie cutters and mentioned that it would look really neat if we could get them in graduated sizes, stacking them to make a Christmas tree. I said, "You saw that on Pinterest, didn't you?" He replied sheepishly, "Yes..."
Yesterday, he took a break from his studies and made four 4-inch boxes for me out of foam core. Today we wrapped them brown paper and plan to decorate them for the mantle. I am going to breakout my Cricut and print out letters so the boxes spell out NOEL.
I also bought two boxes of Shiny Brite ornaments at Marshalls a couple weeks ago, and I am going to have my own Shiny Brite tree. I am going to string colored lights above the cabinets in the kitchen. The tree is going to go in front of the window and be completely covered in white lights. I want to get garland and string it up with lights and tie it to the banister to the balcony of the loft. I am trying to do it on a budget. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on decorations I will use for a month.
I have all sorts of ideas, and I am chomping at the bit. I absolutely love Christmas. I have always loved it, but I love it more now that I have a house to decorate. Maybe we need to have a Christmas party this year. :) You know, to show all my decorations off because the only people who will get to see them are my parents, Mike's parents, Mike, me and the dog. ;)
Happy decorating :)
